New York City has flourished because of its location on the protected waters of New York Bay. Since four of the five buroughs are on islands, getting to and from New York City has always involved crossing over, on, or under the water. The many bridges and tunnels that millions of residents, commuters, and tourists use to get into the city have a complex history and mixed feelings.

The most popular bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge, however the most used bridge is the George Washington Bridge.
