The “spine” of the Oculus is aligned with the sun as it would be at 8:46 on September 11th, an homage to the 9/11 Attacks On New York. It was designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2016.
From a transportation point of view, this is officially the World Trade Center Transportation Hub for PATH and NYC Subways. There are four levels of transit beneath the Westfield World Trade Center mall.
